"Complex" is a nice way to put it. A lot of stuff is just the result of powerful people having done something terrible hundreds or even thousands of years ago, and having managed to keep doing it for so long that we stopped thinking about it unless prompted. Humans are really good at that, at deciding that things are "normal".
But you know, hey, good for you guys! The gender norms that make up the majority of the internet are stupid. Like, there's half a dozen colors that are socially acceptable for men to wear in large amounts: black, white, gray, blue, khaki, and olive green, and that last one is circumstantial only. Then they can wear a couple other colors, but only in small amounts. And if they wear purple or pink? Oooh boy do they have trouble on their hands. It's really, really stupid.
